Numerical analysis of propellers for electric boats using computational fluid dynamics modelling

In the maritime industry, propellers are most commonly used form of propulsion and core to optimum performance a ship. As marine have complicated geometries, flow around propeller is also complicated. Generally, characteristics determined analysed by experiments like open water self-propulsion scale model tests which costly time-consuming at initial design stage. this study, CFD simulations were performed evaluate performance. Three Wageningen B-series with varying Expanded Area Ratios (EAR) modelled respect some constraints, such as ship speed rotational velocity. The hydrodynamic coefficients, thrust, torque efficiency then analysed. These validated against experimental data obtained from Netherlands Ship Model Basin test in investigate behaviour. analysis considers Multiple Reference Frame (MRF) model. This research aims provide well-founded framework for applying selection propellers, well investigating relationship between EAR, behaviour, thrust coefficient, coefficient electric boats. results showed that lower manifested improved increasing up 62%. addition, outcome revealed expanded area ratio 0.6 more suitable boats, creating larger pressure difference 1.079 MPa generating extra potential same advance ratio, leads greater efficiency.
